CUSTOMER STORY

Company consolidates suppliers: "We have reduced our workload"

Too many suppliers and long processes

Our customer was on a mission: to optimize their supply chain for the categories Turning & Milling + Sheet Metal. The Category Manager explains: “We were facing a situation with far too many suppliers. And with mostly frame agreements, we had to handle new price agreements daily. This project is about reducing the number of suppliers, improving our long RFQ process, and stopping the use of frame contracts. All while maintaining our high level of quality.”

Trust is vital when sourcing from the other side of the world

At EA-Connect, we are proud to have taken over a large number of the parts. In the process the customer visited the main suppliers, made QC inspections, and, in some cases, production tests. “From the very beginning, EA-Connect has taken a ‘we are following you’ approach. This has been a great way of cooperating as a Category Manager. We speak openly about the difficulties of setting up a supply chain that is not just around the corner but on the other side of the world. Because of the complexities, we’ll have to trust each other.”

Reduced workload and stronger relations

The Category Manager reports that they have already seen improvements: “We have reduced our workload. Both in supplier management and the everyday renewal of frame contracts. We also see it in our stock. In the past, we got deliveries every 1 to 3 months in single shipments. Now we get fewer items, but in deliveries every 2nd week. Lastly, we bring more business to fewer suppliers, which has strengthened our partnerships.“

– but with the potential of improved pricing without compromising quality."
